About Us

Head Start has served nearly 30 million children since 1965, growing from an eight-week demonstration project to include full day/year services and many program options. Currently, Head Start is administered by the Administration for Children and Families (ACF) in the Department of Health and Human Services. Head Start serves over a million children and their families each year in urban and rural areas in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. territories, including American Indian, Alaskan Native and Migrant/Seasonal communities.

Early Head Start is a federally-funded community-based program for low-income families with infants and toddlers. Its mission is simple: to enhance the development of very young children and to promote healthy family functioning. EHS provides comprehensive, year-round child and family development services for low-income families with children ages six weeks to 3 years.

Lutheran Services Florida, Inc. is a statewide, nonprofit human services agency dedicated to helping all people in need regardless of religious affiliation, age or national origin. Headquartered in Tampa, the agency has more than 60 programs located throughout Florida. Since it was established in 1982, LSF has helped more than 900,000 men, women and children.

Lutheran Services Florida, Inc. is currently serving approximately 6,000 children and families in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Duval, Belle Glade and Palm Beach counties in Florida. We have been a Head Start Grantee for over 30 years. LSF offers comprehensive education, family services, disability, health and nutritional services to all eligible children and families.
